Which is the most common oral disease?

Dental caries commonly known as tooth decay or cavities are the most common oral disease. They are caused by a combination of factors including bacteria in your mouth, frequent snacking, sipping sugar-containing drinks, and not cleaning your teeth well. There is no way to cure a cavity once formed, particularly if it has reached the inner dentin layer of your tooth. The only way to get rid of the cavity is to take your dentists’ help. The Dentist would remove the damaged area for you and perform a filling procedure. Untreated tooth decay can lead to an infection in the tooth called a tooth abscess. Untreated will also destroy the tooth pulp. This may require more extensive treatment or possible removal of the tooth. Sugars and starches increase the risk of tooth decay.

We must keep our mouths as healthy as possible. A healthy mouth improves the quality of our life. By regular examination of the face and teeth, osteoporosis and musculoskeletal disorders can be diagnosed. In patients with gum diseases and bleeding gums, infectious oral bacteria can pass into blood vessels and be carried to the heart. Poor oral hygiene may increase the risk of aspiration of oral bacteria and potentially lead to respiratory diseases.
